Python Eats Porcupine Whole, Then The Unexpected Happens…

The snake then begins to consume it, starting with the head.

Pythons swallow their prey from the head down. It is a much smoother and less problematic route to take than the bottom up, going against the grain.

For the most part, even the largest pythons usually don’t eat anything larger than the size of a domestic cat. But occasionally, they do go after the big game.

While pythons are nonvenomous, they evolved from a venomous ancestor. All snakes did, actually. Pythons do produce a very small quantity of toxins in their mandibular and maxillary glands. This indicates that pythons of yesteryear may have been more venomous, but outgrew the need for it when constriction was favored by evolution.
